Dilaton Stabilization in Effective Type I String Models

چکیده
We show that the dilaton and T -moduli can be stabilized by a single gaugino condensation mechanism in the four-dimensional effective field theory derived from Type IIB orientifolds. A crucial role is played by the mixing of the blowing-up modes Mk with the T -moduli in the Kähler metric, and by the presence of the Mk in the gauge kinetic functions. Supersymmetry breaking in these models is dominated by the auxiliary fields of the T moduli, and phenomenologically interesting patterns can emerge.

A ug 2 00 1 CP and Flavour in Effective Type I String Models
Effective type I string models allow stabilization of the dilaton and moduli fields with only a single gaugino condensate. We show that, as well as breaking super-symmetry, the stabilization can spontaneously break CP. We find that this source of CP violation hints strongly at a natural solution to the supersymmetric CP and flavour problems. Even though the CP violation generates physical phase...

متن کاملOld ideas and new twists in string cosmology
Some of the phenomenological implications of string cosmological models are reviewed, with particular attention to the spectra of the tensor, scalar and vector modes of the geometry. A class of self-dual string cosmological models is presented. These solutions provide an effective description of cold bounces, where a phase of accelerated contraction smoothly evolves into an epoch of decelerated...
متن کاملStabilizing Dilaton and Moduli Vacua in String and M–Theory Cosmology
We show how non-trivial form fields can induce an effective potential for the dilaton and metric moduli in compactifications of type II string theory and M–theory. For particular configurations, the potential can have a stable minimum. In cosmological compactifications of type II theories, we demonstrate that, if the metric moduli become fixed, this mechanism can then lead to the stabilization ...
متن کاملLattice Supersymmetry and String Phenomenology
String phenomenology would benefit from lattice supersymmetry. Without stabilization of moduli, very little predictivity exists in semi-realistic (supersymmetric) string-derived models. The details of stabilization schemes are always somewhat “iffy” because of nonholomorphic quantities in the effective theory (things that depend on the Kähler potential K, such as soft masses, B-terms, A-terms, ...
